Only in Canada

I was in a hospital today (playing chauffeur for someone) and went to get a doughnut (as you do) while they were getting their IV treatment.

So, I head upstairs and wish I had my camera with me as this was the sign above the door:

Support                                    Tim
Services                                   Hortons.

Only in Canada, right?

Olympics

For the next two weeks, I will be strangely interested in sports, and somewhat patriotic.  I will watch sports I will never think of again (until the next Olympics.)

I blame the pageantry, and the glitter that inevitably comes with the pageantry.

Weird fact of the day:  Someone I know is one of the performers in the opening ceremonies.

OMG FAMILY MYSTERY SOLVED!

While I should have been writing my recap for "Sneakerhead," I wound up on a 2 hour phone call with [livejournal.com profile] seanchaidh .  In that 2 hour phone call, we solved a 90 year old family mystery -- the mystery of my Great Grandmother's first fiance.

Thus, the infamous family mystery of who is Walter, is solved.  The archives, with the magic of [livejournal.com profile] seanchaidh , finally spit out this record.

Yes, this is him!

He lived right around the corner from my Nan.

HOW FREAKING COOL IS THIS!?!?

Dear Canada

Dear Canada,

This letter is particularly addressed to those buying the myth a coalition is illegal / unfair / not representing the people / other bullshit.  Let me clear up a few things.
  • If the coalition goes through, it'll represent more of the voting population than the current government (52.9% versus 46.4%).  How is that not democratic?  That's a huge difference.
  • It's perfectly legal.  We've had them before.  Granted, it was nearly a century ago, but this means it's legal.  Hell, it was threatened years ago, but the Tories never expected them to follow through on it.
  • Stephane Dion is way smarter in French.  He doesn't translate well into English. Plus, while he may not have been the best choice of Liberal Leader, why was the election campaign all about how he would tank the economy when the economy was already swirling around the bottom?
  • The Tories held an unnecessary election, and are now throwing a political temper-tantrum because they didn't get a majority.  It's called one reaps what one sows.
  • I'll support anything that keeps Jim Flaherty away from the public purse.  I've had to live with him in provincial politics and now federal.  Enough already!
  • The Tories are far better at playing the media than the other parties at the moment which is why this crap is swilling about.
  • If one disagrees with the coalition for genuine ideological or political beliefs, that's a personal choice but please, think before believing the press.
  • I love you for caring this much about your politics, even with misinformation and such.
Love,
Spy

On a side note:

Dear Kevin Frankish,

I like BT.  It's fun and wakes me up in the morning.  The dancing alarm clock is cute.  Jennifer Valentyne drives me up a wall because she always makes it about her than the place from where she's reporting but I can tolerate that.  I usually pour my coffee when she blathers on.  Up until today, I would've said you were my favourite part of BT.  I even like your suspenders.  They're amusing.  This morning, when you made comments reflecting the mistaken beliefs I dealt with above, I was disappointed my fun morning show turned into a political moment.
In short, you pissed me off.
No love,
Spy
